How it all began
In 2011, Paul Scarabelli began writing songs for what would become Blackout to Oblivion. With a few solid tracks under his belt, he recruited John Moore (guitars) and Matt Lloyd (drums). The search for unique vocals and bass began. In mid-2011 Newcastle's Sagacity wound things up with their final show and Paul quickly secured himself well loved bass player Legion and the unparalleled high screams of Matt Dodd. Lyrics were written, songs were polished and just to make things a little more interesting Ian Tomlinson of Osmium Grid joined the ranks as a co-vocalist.
Blackout to Oblivion were ready for the stage. Supporting RECOIL V.O.R and DEPRIVATION their first gig was a massive success. The room was packed, the crowd was moshing and everybody was left wanting more. Everything looked set for the start of a successful band. Shortly after, half the band seemed to vanish...
Many months had passed and BTO were stuck, once again without drums and a second guitar. Nearly all hope was lost.Paul and Matt refused to let their songs be swept under the rug so Matt tried taking on the added role of guitar but did not want to lose the energy and power in his singing. In mid-2012, Nic Nancarrow (ex - Celephai) put his hand up to tackle the guitars. Not only did he tackle them, he bundled them up and kicked the shit out of them. The twin guitars of Nic and Paul is something Newcastle has definitely been missing of late.
The band was now a four piece (with only Matt on vocals) and the arduous task of finding a drummer in Newcastle began, again. With a few failed attempts the boys were nearly going to call it quits. Then, in late September 2012 a chance encounter saw the addition of one of Newcastle's greatest metal drummers Corey Williams. This single recruitment had changed BTO's songs from "pretty damn good" to "an international standard".
Things were now looking up for BTO and just 4 weeks after Corey had joined the band, BTO opened Newcaslte's leg of the Whiplash tour w/ LYNCHMADA, DAWN HEIST and Denmark's own MNEMIC. The new Blackout to Oblivion had taken Newcastle by force.
A string of local gigs followed and BTO fans started to grow. Proving to have a "killer live show" it was time for BTO to release their debut EP "Scars of a Scarecrow". Recorded, mixed and mastered by BTO's own, Paul Scarabelli, the EP release saw another big crowd and BTO quickly sold out of their much anticipated EP's.
Whilst gaining frequent 'air-time' on radio shows and pod casts BTO are looking to expand their fanbase by the thousands. 2013 will see their first venture into Sydney and they have a spot on the much awaited return of Metal Bloody Metal (w/ FRANKENBOK). It is only a matter of time before this band travels interstate, then internationally. Keep on the lookout for Blackout to Oblivion, they will not disappoint.
